The Brain-Based Series

Children with FASD are some of the most misunderstood kids in classrooms, homes, and clinics around the world. Their behaviours are real, brain-based, and documented. But they are routinely mistaken for misbehaviour, laziness, defiance, or not trying hard enough.

The Brain-Based Series was created to shift that perception. One book, one child, one brain at a time.

Each book in the series:

- Tells a relatable story through Kai’s eyes, in simple, accessible language

- Names a specific behavioural symptom that children with FASD commonly experience

- Explains the brain-based reason behind it — clearly, without shame

- Models a real, evidence-informed strategy that helps

- Closes with a Note for Readers that speaks directly to the child

 

Every book can be read as a standalone resource or as part of the full series. If a child in your care is experiencing a particular difficulty right now, the book that addresses that behaviour is the right place to start.

 

The series is produced by Behaviour Navigator and grounded in research. Each book has a free companion resource on this website for the adults around the child, covering the evidence behind the behaviour, why it gets misread, and how to support it effectively.
