Research Companion

Every book in The Brain-Based Series has a free companion resource on this website, written for the adults around the child.

 

Each companion covers: 

• The behaviour the book addresses, and what it looks like in daily life

• Why it gets misread and the specific misattributions that cause harm 

• What the peer-reviewed research says about the underlying mechanism

• The strategy used in the book, and why it is appropriate for FASD

• A note for educators, parents, and clinicians on how to apply it

The companions are designed to be read alongside the books, by any adult who wants to understand the evidence behind what they’re seeing in a child they support. All research cited is peer-reviewed and where the evidence base is emerging or draws from adjacent research, this is stated explicitly.

 

The Brain-Based Series is not just a collection of children’s books. It is an evidence-informed resource for understanding FASD-related behaviour — written at the level of the child, and supported at the level of the research.
